          Every year, the conversation around New Year’s resolutions sounds the same:
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          eat healthier, exercise more, find better work-life balance—repeat.

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

          And here’s the best part:

          It adds nothing to your already full life.

          Instead of piling on more goals, start by releasing what’s weighing you down.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Release Outdated Self-Expectations
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h4&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Release old identities, roles, and obligations that no longer align with who you are becoming.
           &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
           Let go of the
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          “shoulds.”
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Shoulds
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

           are subtle forms of self-shaming—and they stop progress before it begins.

      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

          You do not need to perform.
          &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          Do nothing half-heartedly.
          &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          Authenticity—not perfection—is what people actually respond to.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;

          Pause &amp;amp; Reflect

          What expectations am I still carrying that no longer fit who I am becoming?

          Release Emotional Entanglements
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h4&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Let go of energy-draining relationships and turn in your people-pleasing membership card—for good.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Some relationships are meant for a season only.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

           Be grateful for what was shared, what was learned, and who you became—then release both them

           Let go of the internal drama.

           Replace it with what is

          true, good, and right
         &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           about you and your life.
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
          Pause &amp;amp; Reflect
         &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          What thought do I repeat about myself that quietly limits what I believe is possible?

          Release Rigidity
         &#xD;

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h4&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Life is constantly changing—and growth requires flexibility.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          This doesn’t mean abandoning your values or integrity.

          It means staying open when the plan goes off script.

          Life is tough.  The news seems to relentlessly find mind-blowing chaos that causes distress and fear that somehow reveals, yet another case of shocking depravity and corruption. 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           ﻿
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Schedules are as maxed out as people’s credit cards. 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Despite living in an age of unprecedented “connectability,” human relationships have never felt so disconnected. 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Then Christmas arrives.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;

          Midway through December, we seem to settle in—long enough that, in the still and noiseless moments, our vision lifts, even briefly, to a place of love, hope, and the dreamy idea of new beginnings.

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Like a cool breeze on a sunny December day, winds of hope and inspiration begin to blow. We inhale deeply, sharply, the crisp air awakening our tension-filled bodies—and then comes the December exhale. In that stillness, we fan the first sparks of hope into tender embers of possibility.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;

  &lt;h4&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Hope is the undeniable, universal theme of Christmas—a long-awaited light breaking through the darkness after a long night.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h4&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Hope comes alive through intentional time with family. Through authentic conversations at office holiday luncheons. Through a thoughtful, unexpected gift from a neighbor you haven’t spoken to since early fall, when you were both doing yardwork.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          It shows up in smiles from fellow shoppers. In the joy of giving. In the heart of charity and compassion that burns brightly for the less fortunate this time of year.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Christmas brings out the best in humanity.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           It reminds us of a timeless truth:
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
          there is
         &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
          always
         &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
          hope.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

          Not the hollow, “hopey-changey” kind of hope divorced from reality.

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          Not the “fat chance” hope whispered by the broken-hearted pessimist.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;

  &lt;h4&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          True hope is tender. Beautiful. Creative. Deeply heartfelt and inspirational.

          No matter your circumstances—your status, finances, health, or relationships—hope always exists.

           As we gather with friends and family over the next month, not all gatherings are ones we look forward to. None of our families depict the images curated by Currier and Ives or Hallmark movies. Most family Christmases are a little more like

          1. “Where Are We Spending Christmas (Eve/Day)?”
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h3&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Have this conversation with your spouse
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          very
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           early in the season. While our families of origin have plans, long-held traditions, and weighty expectations, the married couple is responsible for deciding how and where you spend your time. You have the freedom and autonomy to choose what works best for your family.

      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           ﻿
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          This reflects the natural design of family evolution and succession — we leave our families of origin and cleave to another.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Don’t believe me? Look at the animal kingdom. Even plants release seeds to grow elsewhere once maturity is reached.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Once the two of you decide on a plan that works for your marriage and your children (especially young children), lovingly communicate your plans to your families. Adults understand that marriage supersedes all relationships. They may be disappointed that you aren’t coming when they want you to, but most will be grateful for whatever time you can share.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Your family is entitled to feel disappointment — after all, you
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          are
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           fun, and your kids
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          are
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           amazing! But you are not obligated to rescue anyone from their need to make a few personal adjustments.
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
          That’s their work.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          This is important to understand as a couple, because forcing yourself into a schedule that doesn’t work for you creates resentment, stress, and strain — all of which are avoidable with gentle assertiveness communicated with love.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
          You will never please everyone. Ever. So stop trying. 
         &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           If others struggle to adjust, that isn’t yours to fix — it is something
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
          they
         &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           must heal. Your responsibility is to stand united as a couple and create a plan you both agree on.
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

           Remember: while Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are spiritually significant, wondrous, and holy, they are still just days on the calendar. You can gather with family
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          any day of the year
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          , and if grateful hearts exist, that time — whether it’s the weekend before, on the day, after the holiday, or a random day in January — time together will still be cherished.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          If it feels right, you can express that you’ll change things up next year — but only if that’s a commitment you can genuinely make. More often, a simple reassurance of your love and your desire to gather soon is enough.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;

          2. “My Mom Will Freak Out if We’re Not There on Christmas Day.”
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h3&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          She might. Some will. She’s entitled to her disappointment. She may cry, vent, or stomp around for a few hours — but in most cases, she will get over it.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           If she truly
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          won’t
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           get over it, then she is more attached to punishing, shaming, or manipulating you than she is to welcoming you at a time that works for your family.
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
          Boom.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           This kind of rigid, inflexible thinking is a hallmark of a broken relational pattern that
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          needs
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           healing — in
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
          her
         &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          .
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
          Not. Yours. To. Fix.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           ﻿
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Emotional manipulation is real. Some call it “guilt-tripping.” In truth, it is coercion. Coercion is controlling, unhealthy, and borderline abusive — and it is deeply unloving. Do not get pulled into that dynamic. Boundaries. Healthy boundaries protect relationships.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h3&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          3. “What If Their Family Is Coming to Our House, But I Don’t Want Them Staying with Us?”
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h3&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Talk with your spouse. Decide together what makes sense for your home and your
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
          peace
         &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

          Some families are tougher to host than others. That’s not judgment; it’s reality. Your home is your sanctuary, and some people are easier to enjoy in small doses, while others seamlessly mesh with the flow of your household rhythm.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Healthy people function in reality, not delusion or romanticized fantasy.
          &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          (Yep, I said that.)
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Anything less than reality is distortion at best — fantasy rooted in wishful thinking, or deep delusion where all evidence of reality and truth is ignored.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           If asking them to stay in a hotel, with a sibling, or elsewhere allows
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          everyone
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           to enjoy the visit, then that is a loving choice. Tension is never one-sided — if you feel it, I assure you,
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
          they do too
         &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;

           While they may misinterpret your decision, we cannot govern how others perceive our actions. Lovingly act in the best interests of your spouse, your children, and your peace. This allows the time you

      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          do
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

           spend together to be rich, meaningful, and manageable.

           It is so easy to get caught up in the demands of the Christmas season. With gifts to buy, parties to host, pageants to attend, school events, family gatherings, cookies to bake, wrapping to finish —
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          and
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           all the regular things you already do each day — it can feel like utter madness.
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
          Take a breath.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;

          Do this year… differently.

           It isn’t rocket science, nor will it require divine intervention (for most, haha!). But it

          will

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

           require intention.

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;

          Slow it down.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          In 2025, we super-impose urgency over everything.
          &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          We can’t wait for people to respond to our texts.
          &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          We rush our children out the door.
          &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          We zip around town like Mario Andretti — only to get gridlocked in traffic (or is it just me?).
          &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          Mercy, we can barely wait two days for Amazon to deliver a package!
         &#xD;

          We end up living frazzled, depleted, and wholly exhausted.
          &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          We make mistakes, forget things, half-ass tasks that needed just a moment more care.
          &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          We strain relationships.
          &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          And all of it happens at our own hand.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
          Rushing isn’t efficient. It’s costly.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           ﻿
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      
          This year, I challenge you to approach the Christmas season differently.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h2&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          1. Plan
          &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h2&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Take a few minutes — alone or with your spouse — and talk through the holiday. Don’t overplan or overcommit. Keep things realistic and fun for everyone.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Plan purchases, too. Impulse buying is what puts most people in the red this time of year. Use a budget.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           ﻿
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Checking off a list is just that — cold line items.
          &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          Instead, get creative. Make gifting thoughtful and personal.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

          2. Have the Courage (and Fortitude) to Say “No”

  &lt;/h2&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           If it costs too much — say
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          no.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
           If you truly don’t have time — say
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          no.

          If you really don’t want to participate in the Stinky Santa event – say

      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           If Grandma Gertrude wants you to eat another Snickerdoodle — say
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          no.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Saying “no” isn’t unloving.
           &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
           It’s your
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
          truth.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Respect yourself enough to act with honesty and integrity on your own behalf.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           ﻿
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Don’t sacrifice your peace trying to be the salvation of someone else’s requests — especially when they weren’t looking for a martyr to worship in the first place. (Wink!)
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;

          3. Be Intentional with Your Words, Your Actions and Your Relationships
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h2&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Instead of checking boxes this year, be intentional.
          &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          Be deliberate with your time. Make heart-filtered, conscious decisions.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Listen more.
          &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          Sit with others.
          &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          Say “thank you” freely.
          &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          Smile often.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Write a handwritten Christmas card.
          &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          Play a game with your kids.
          &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          Have a meaningful conversation with your spouse.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          These acts are game-changers — the stuff beautiful memories (and beautiful relationships) are made of.
          &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h2&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          4. Simplify. Less Is More. Always.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h2&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Even your kids will tell you this.
           &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
           Fifteen to twenty minutes of your
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
          undivided attention
         &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           each day of Christmas break is more meaningful than a tree flooded with whatever is trending.
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Your spouse would probably agree.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Read stories to your kids.
          &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          Curl up with a book yourself.
          &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          Sit outside with your spouse, bundled up, watching the night sky with cocoa by the fire.
          &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          Walk as a family and enjoy the Christmas lights in your neighborhood.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           ﻿
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Quality never loses to quantity.
          &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          Don’t be a victim of commercialism, posturing or materialism.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

          5. Be Reverent

           No matter your faith, this time of year is unspeakably

          holy

          Different.

          This isn’t coincidence.

          It’s sacred.

          This is, I believe, how life was meant to be lived.

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

          We are made for love and community.

      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          We are made to steward our time, gifts and desires — the soul of our creativity.

          Life is about gathering with family, savoring simple moments, caring for those who have less.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;

          Tenderness, hope, joy and gratitude move through every conversation.

          Be reverent, above all things.

          In doing so, this may be your best Christmas ever —

          and for your joy, I pray that it is.
